Stand playbook: how we sell

The 3D model shows where everything goes. This page shows how to run the stand. These rules come from Katran’s shows at Carp Den Bosch and work the same in Budapest.

Rule number one
Always be doing something.

A stand where people only stand and wait stays empty. Something should be happening on the counter every minute of the show: a line being broken, a knot tested, a reel being spooled, a Spyder Spod hitting the table.

The crowd effect

People follow people. An empty stand gets walked past. A full stand pulls everyone in to see what’s going on. That’s human psychology, and we use it on purpose.

01 · stand is empty

Start a demo

Don’t wait for visitors. Break a line or smash a Spyder Spod loudly enough for the aisle to notice.

02 · first 2–3 stop

The hard part is done

Talk to them, put product in their hands, keep the demo going.

03 · keep them

Hold people as long as possible

Every person who stays is the bait for the next one. Show one more thing, then another.

04 · crowd

Sell

When people are three deep, the stand sells itself. This is when most of the money is made.

Five people, three behind the counters. The space behind the counters fits three. The other two stand in front of the counter at the corners, starting demos and drawing people in from the aisle. Rotate every hour.

Put it in their hands

When people touch a product they feel a connection to it, and they’re much more likely to buy. Hand over line, headlamps and Spyder Spods. Spools stay open on the counter so anyone can pull line off.

Spyder Spod · 200 pcs · our top item

The smash

Smash a closed Spyder Spod on the table to simulate it hitting the water: it opens instantly. Then hand it over and let them do it. This demo works perfectly.

Show why it’s different from the spods they already own.

Synapse Orange · Tangerine · 252 boxes

Lead with the price

1000 m of good line at a price that’s easy to say yes to. Mention the price early, point at the pyramid, and let people pick a box straight off the pile.

Price gets their attention, then quality closes the sale.

Any mono · Crypton · Synapse

Breaking test

Give the visitor a length of line and let them pull until it breaks. They feel the strength themselves, so you don’t have to claim it.

Line + braids + leaders

Tie and test a knot

Tie a knot in front of them, then test it together. It starts a conversation and shows how the line holds a knot.

Line spooling tool · 20 pcs

Spool a reel

Clamp the tool on the counter box and spool a reel live. Let the visitor turn the handle.

Headlamp W/B460 PRO · 20 pcs

Night mode

Switch to blue light over the dark aquarium and show how Synapse lights up when daylight is low. Then put the headlamp on their head.

SBM · UltraSpod · aquarium

Sink vs float

Drop both into the tank: SBM goes straight to the bottom, UltraSpod stays on top. It shows how fast the line sinks and how well it can be seen.

PVA organic · ~200 pcs

Dissolve test

Drop a piece of PVA mesh into the water glass and let them watch it go.

New · Rush tapered braided shock leader

Talk about what’s new

Always mention the new products, starting with Rush: 70–50 lb, 7.3 m, 6 pieces per pack. New products give returning anglers a reason to stop.

Best places for the biggest quantities

What we sent the most of gets the best displays. Keep these spots full all day.

Team rules

  • Everyone is active, not just the lead. All five people demo, talk and sell. Nobody sits on a stool waiting.
  • Match the energy. When one person starts a demo, the others pick up the people it attracts.
  • Sleep well the night before. Come in fresh and ready to talk a lot for nine hours.
  • Explain or show something, always. If there’s nothing to sell right now, there’s something to demonstrate.
  • Phones away at the counter. A person looking at a phone makes the stand look closed.
  • Breaks are staggered and never at the midday peak, especially on Saturday.
  • Tidy the counter between waves. Rebuild the pyramid and put open spools back where people can reach them.

Three days, three different jobs

At most fishing shows, Friday is the business day, Saturday is the busiest and Sunday falls in between. Budapest may differ, but plan for this pattern and use Friday to learn.

Fri 6 Nov · 9:00–18:00
Business + test day
  • Meet shops and dealers. Collect contacts and start new cooperations.
  • Show the range to trade visitors properly. They’re the long-term sales.
  • Test every demo and notice which ones stop people.
  • Evening: 10-minute team debrief. What worked, what to restock, what to move.
Sat 7 Nov · 9:00–18:00
Peak day · all hands
  • Most visitors come today. All five people on the stand from opening.
  • Demos non-stop, run Friday’s best ones most often.
  • Stock filled under the counters before opening, so nobody leaves the counter to fetch boxes.
  • Keep the crowd going. Today is where the crowd effect pays.
Sun 8 Nov · 9:00–17:00
Second wave + close
  • Busier than Friday, quieter than Saturday. Same energy, same demos.
  • Push what is still on the wall in the biggest quantities.
  • Follow up the trade contacts from Friday.
  • Count stock at close. Sold items are due by 15 Nov and unsold stock goes back.
