A season on the bank, from my eyes to yours — the leadcores, hooklinks and leaders I trusted most, and the fish they helped me land.
I want to pass on my passion for nature, my experience and my way of life — through pictures and a short article about Katran products, from my eyes to yours.
I’m Dejan Sovič, a carp angler from Slovenia and a member of the Katran team Slovenia. Over the past year, with the help of Katran products, I managed to achieve incredible results. Here I’ll describe my favourite and most-used Katran products — the ones that came with me on every trip into nature.
I’d seen something similar a few years earlier, but the Mimicker leadcore was the very first product from the Katran house that I used — and it proved indispensable on waters with heavy vegetation. Its grassy coat moves in the water and behaves completely naturally.
Mimicker has helped me outsmart quite a few capital grass carp on heavily weeded water. Paired with the Mimicker 35 lb Weedy Camo Green cord, the whole system becomes simply invisible among the vegetation.
For longer rigs in combination with a leadcore, I used the Gurza 25 lb green coated hooklink — again for weeded water, thanks to its green colour. It’s fast-sinking and extremely durable.
I also had the chance to build a couple of rigs with Aspid 3 25 lb and Aspid 6 25 lb. The Aspid hooklinks are fast-sinking and give superior knot strength. They’re highly resistant to abrasion and almost invisible thanks to their camouflage pattern.
My favourite hooklink, Cobra 25 lb Brown — with a floating core and a removable coating — is ideal for balanced and snowman presentations. It’s remarkable for its suppleness and colour, which make it invisible on most waters with a darker bottom.
It’s the hooklink I reach for most often, and as proof, here are a few of the bigger fish that fell to Cobra.
The Stels 45 lb shock leader is extremely strong on the knot and absorbs the initial shock of an aggressive cast — which is exactly why I also chose it for my spod rod. Long story short: it has an incredibly long life. Even after a year of use, the line kept its properties.

And finally, the Comodo Chain Core 80 lb (green, and black-brown-black). It contains no lead — the core is made of brass. The name says it all: Comodo behaves like a chain, and thanks to its flexibility and weight it hugs any underwater relief perfectly.
It’s extremely abrasion-resistant, so shells and rocks are no problem. Available in two colourways, it blends into whatever water you’re fishing — and near-guarantees results. Comodo is a truly amazing product from the Katran house, and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new.
I hope I’ve managed to share what I promised at the start — a real glimpse of a year on the bank with Katran, from my eyes to yours. I’m already looking forward to testing more of their products next season.
